The Rights To Ricky Sanchez: The Sixers Podcast

The NBA Draft is this week, and we deep dive into it all with NBA Scount Elan Vinokurov, talking about what he got right and wrong from last year, who he likes at the top of this year’s draft, and potential selections for the Sixers at 24 and the second round. We also discuss the Anthony Davis trade to the Lakers and its effect on the Sixers, and the NBA Finals. You can find out more about Elan’s draft camps at evhoops.com.

Spike and Mike discuss that question, talk about the rumors involving Anthony Davis and the Lakers and Celtics, who the Sixers might sign if Harris and Butler leave, what the chances are that Ben Simmons has a better career than Joel Embiid, and two listener submitted jigsaws. We’ve made a lot of enemies over the last six years, and most of them don’t even know they’re our enemies. In September of 2017, we did our first podcast ranking the Enemies Of The Process, and we decided it was time for an updated ranking. Andrew Unterberger joins us to figure out which Colangelo is worse, where David Silver ranks, whether Spike’s dad is in the top ten, and where everyone else falls in the top 20. We also talk about the Sixers hire of Ime Udoka as assistant coach.

We also announced that the Final Lottery Party raised over $16,000 for the Providence Animal Center and Coded By Kids. Thank you!

It’s been one year since the Ringer published the article about Bryan Colangelo’s burner Twitter accounts that would later get him fired, only to be replaced by Elton Brand, who he once signed and is on the shirt. We look back at Burnergate one year later, talk about its lasting effects, every crazy detail we can remember, rank the burner accounts, and go over Colagelo’s Sixers resume. We also go around the league with Ish Smith and discuss the Finals, the Timberwolves front office and the Rockets fire sale. In the biggest game of the year, the Sixers come up small in a Game 5 loss to the Raptors. This time, it wasn’t Kawhi Leonard that was the problem, it was everyone else. Joel Embiid was still sick, Ben Simmons and JJ Redick were invisible, and there wasn’t nearly enough from Butler or Harris. The Sixers backs are against the wall, we discuss what they need to change for Game 6.

Joel Embiid was sick again, Kawhi Leonard hit shots that made us sick, Tobias Harris missed a lot of open shots, and Jimmy Butler played his ass off. All of that added up to a close game that saw the Raptors pull out down the stretch. The series is 2-2 heading back to Toronto. We also discuss JJ Redick not saying the name.

Greg Monroe’s missed layup was the most glorious moment of the Sixers’ postseason so far. Kawhi Leonard was robotic in his scoring excellence, but Joel Embiid was dominant on both sides of the court, Jimmy Butler glue guyed all over the place, and the Sixers ran the Raptors off the court. We wish Brett Brown could have been there to see it. We were right.

Joel Embiid had a tummy ache, but the Sixers came through with their best defensive effort of the year to even their series with the Raptors at 1-1. Ben Simmons had an elite defensive effort, Jimmy Butler became the fourth quarter finisher, and Brett Brown, who apparently coached the game, made some key adjustments that got the Raptors off balance and led the defense.

The Raptors looked like the sum of all fears for Sixers fans in the opener of their Eastern Conference Semifinal series. Kawhi Leonard was a monster on both ends, Pascal Siakam didn’t miss, and the Raptors defense swallowed up Embiid, Butler, and Harris. If the Sixers are going to win in seven games, they’ll have to lose three. We’ll talk about how they can win the other four.

The Sixers dismantled the Nets in Game 5, taking the series 4-1, wrapping up four straight after the panic of the first game loss. Joel Embiid looked spry, Ben Simmons and Jimmy Butler dominated on defense. The Sixers now face the Raptors, who were 3-0 in the season series in games that Kawhi Leonard played in. We look back at the Nets series and ahead to the Raptors.

We’ve come so far since the beginning of The Process, and we’ve come so far that Greg Monroe started a game in the playoffs for the Sixers in place of the team’s best player, and they won. Ben Simmons dominated, Tobias Harris exploded, Greg Monroe stood there, Jimmy Butler was steady, all while Joel Embiid sat on the bench. The Sixers lead 2-1.

Good takes! What a difference a couple of days makes. Ben “From Here” Simmons came in motivated and aggressive, Joel Embiid was hurting but had a monster third quarter, JJ Redick actually made a few shots, Boban Marjanovich hit a few more, and James Ennis saved the season as we all expected him to do. And who coached the Sixers in the second half? The 76ers are once again the best team in the NBA.
