The Rights To Ricky Sanchez: The Sixers Podcast

In one of the best pods in some time, we discuss why Markelle Fultz must continue to start and play a lot for the future of the Sixers, the cheering for him during the home games, the polarizing relationship between fans and Robert Covington, how real the "Simmons and Embiid relationship” issue is, Amir Johnson turning on Kevin O’Connor, and a tribute from Andrew Unterberger to his dad, Glenn.

Cus Crise was in full effect, and unfortunately so was Baynes hitting threes, Tatum banking shots, and Brown screaming and staring after getting blocked and banking shots in against Embiid. We talk about the disappointing loss in the opener to the Celtics, and break down how we think every player looked. We also talk about Andrew Unterberger’s bold predictions for the season.

The Sixers played four preseason games, two of them in China. Based on what we saw, and what we expected, we rate every Sixers player, Brett Brown and Elton Brand on a confidence scale of 0-76. We very briefly discuss the Anthony Davis rumor, very, very briefly.

JJ Redick and Landry Shamet shot the lights out in China. We discuss whether they can keep Redick out of the starting lineup, whether Shamet has forced his way into the rotation, if Luka Doncic is too slow to be a star, what Markelle Fultz’s best role is to develop and win, why Ben Simmons hasn’t learned to shoot, the Sixers trying to trademark Trust The Process, and Andrew Unterberger goes in on Franklin.

Markelle Fultz shot four three pointers and made one of them in an NBA preseason game. This is a big deal. We discuss how optimistic we are at this point for Fultz and his future, and whether his timeline is the same as the rest of the team, and whether he’ll keep wearing that undershirt. We talk about Joel Embiid’s chances at an NBA MVP award this year, whether JJ Redick will continue to come off the bench, and which Sixers player we’d like to be six inches taller.

The Sixers are once again playing basketball. After a summer of questions about jump shots, both Markelle Fultz and Ben Simmons played a game without taking any three pointers, though Fultz did take a couple of 15-footers. We talk about whether we’re encouraged or disappointed by the jumpers, go through Joel Embiid, Dario Saric, and each Sixers player’s performance in the game against Melbourne United. We also take a look back at the context of Elton Brand’s 2008 Philly max and the reactions to it, as well as Brand’s playing career with Andrew Unterberger.

We skipped our Markelle Fultz is shooting now takes during the live show because Elton Brand showed up. We discuss the now famous Player’s Tribune video, revisit the idea of adding Jimmy Butler to the Sixers, talk about Elton Brand’s appearance on the Lowe Post, take some Twitter questions and revisit our last ever live show, Live Ricky III.

Elton Brand surprised us while Spike was talking trash about him, Dario Saric gave one of the best interviews we have ever done, we had three great Process Hall of Fame speeches, a "Bill Simmons" intro, a great rendition of "Imagine (The Process)" from Felicia Ricci, a weird poem from Spike titled The Book Of The Banned (Ben Golliver, Bill Simmons, Howard Eskin, Doris Burke, Kevin O’Connor and Andrew Sharp get played), two people on dog beds and lots of chanting. Even if you don’t like live podcasts, this one is a must listen. Thank you for coming!

Elton Brand is the Sixers general manager now. This has been quite an amazing six years or so hasn’t it? We discuss the hire of guy who is on the shirt, former process Sixer, former Sevens GM, Old School Chevy, all-around good guy Elton Brand. We also talk briefly about Brett Brown’s press availability earlier today.

It’s almost here. The Live Ricky III is Saturday night at the (former) Electric Factory. Dario Saric will be live on stage with us. Join us to give him the hero’s welcome as he finally comes over. It will be awesome. It’s all ages!
