The Rights To Ricky Sanchez: The Sixers (76ers) Podcast

They just won't give us a break. The NBA is looking to return before Christmas, putting the draft and free agency into a very small window, and forcing the Sixers upon us again in 2020. We talk about the plan to restart and who it benefits, this year's edition of the official Enemies Of The Process rankings, Jameer Nelson's hiring, the ridiculous CNBC article about the Sixers, and most importantly, how late do people actually stay up?

This is a good one. Jerome Allen grew up in North Philly, went to the Episcopal Academy, starred at Penn, played over a decade in the NBA and Europe, and later became head coach at Penn and is now an assistant coach for the Boston Celtics. Allen's new book When The Alphabet Comes talks about his life, and self examination after being charged in the Varsity Blues college admission scandal. We had an awesome talk with Jerome about Brad Stevens, Simmons and Embiid, Nick Foles, God Shammgod stealing his move and his book.

Get Jerome's book at whenthealphabetcomes.com or any online retailer.

In are Peter Dinwiddie and Prosper Karangwa to the Sixers front office, out are the Hinkie guys, moved to the back closet are Alex Rucker and Ned Cohen, and sitting at home having never been called is Daryl Morey. We talk about the Sixers insistence on not bringing in a real executive, discuss the hirings of Dinwiddie and Karangwa, read passages from Scott O'Neil's 2005 book about the rat race, dissect a trade for each Sixers player, and once again give great (??) relationship advice.

Ryan McDonough worked in the Celtics front office with Danny Ainge and Doc Rivers, and then as Suns GM traded Zhaire Smith to the Sixers for Mikal Bridges and a first round pick. We talk to McDonough about Rivers and the trade, how a GM works with ownership, transitioning from the front office to media and more. We also discuss Sixers Director of Scouting Phil Jabour leaving, Dave Joerger potentially joining the coaching staff, and ANOTHER book?

Before we get to tons of questions from our Ask Me Anything that was posted on Reddit, we check in with Lakers fans with Mike. Are they worried? Can LeBron come through? Are their neighbors complaining? We quickly discuss Mike O'Connor's Top 12 Overrated Foods list, and then get into the AMA, which includes a heated debate about Jimmy Butler, and the sports take economy.

We're sending our love to Joel Embiid and Anne De Paula, who lost their loving dog Klaus this week. We also send our love to Jaron "The Chef" Olevsky and his family who lost their dog Cedar this week. Rest In Peace.

BIG NEWS! The Sixers are interviewing people for an executive position in the front office underneath Elton Brand. Does this mean an intern? Does it mean they will be physically under a giant Elton Brand chair? We talk about Doc Rivers' intro press conference, and what say he'll have over personnel. We discuss the falling NBA ratings, a rousing episode of relationship advice, and a listener whose life was changed forever. We also briefly discuss calling Doc Rivers, "Glenn."

Doc Rivers is officially the head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers, and we go over the pluses and minuses of the hire, Embiid and Simmons reactions, and what is next. We dive deep into the mailbag to discuss the facts and fiction of Ben Simmons, proof of aliens vs. discovering the source of Burnergate, the ideal thermostat temperature and what makes us qualified to do this podcast. Also: what's Mike going for with his hair and is Spike an anti-vaxer?

With Doc Rivers in town to have an awkward dinner with Josh Harris and David Blitzer, it seems like he'll be the next Sixers coach. We talk about personnel control and what Rivers would bring to the team. We talk about Jimmy Butler in the NBA Finals, and give our predictions for the Bubble Finals. Finally, we bring on comedy writer Doug Mand (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, How I Met Your Mother, Doodie Calls), to settle the standing vs. sitting debate once and for all.
